| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Johnny Ray "John" Shallenberger of | 4 | | Creve Coeur, who passed away on January 22, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, John Shallenberger was born in Peoria to Vernie | 6 | | Ray and Doris Agnes (Akridge) Shallenberger on July 20, 1954; | 7 | | he married Debbie Relker in Sunnyland on June 9, 1973; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, John Shallenberger retired from Caterpillar, Inc. | 9 | | on January 1, 2016 after 43 years of service; he then went to | 10 | | work for the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office as a bailiff at | 11 | | the courthouse on January 4, 2016; he held the position of | 12 | | chief bailiff since March 20, 2021; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, John Shallenberger was a retired member of United | 14 | | Auto Workers Local 974 and was active in their leadership for | 15 | | many years, last serving as financial secretary; in addition, | 16 | | he was civic minded and had served as Groveland Township | 17 | | Supervisor, a Village of Creve Coeur Trustee, and a precinct | 18 | | committeeman; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, John Shallenberger's family was a priority to | 20 | | him, and he loved watching his grandchildren participate in | 21 | | sports and their activities; he also enjoyed gardening and was |

| 1 | | known for raising jalapenos and making jalapeno jelly; he | 2 | | attended First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Creve | 3 | | Coeur; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, John Shallenberger was preceded in death by his | 5 | | parents; his brother, Gary Lee Shallenberger; his sisters, | 6 | | Frankie J. Freeman and Melody E. Tackett; and his | 7 | | brothers-in-law, Johnny Martin, William Howard, and Michael | 8 | | Boeck; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, John Shallenberger is survived by his wife, | 10 | | Debbie; his sons, John (Jennifer) and Jason Shallenberger; his | 11 | | grandchildren, Carter, Mia, and Grayson Shallenberger; his | 12 | | sisters, Regina Martin and Ramona Howard; his sister-in-law, | 13 | | Julia Boeck; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it | 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 16 | | Johnny Ray "John" Shallenberger and extend our sincere | 17 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 18 | | him; and be it further | 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of John Shallenberger as an expression | 21 | | of our deepest sympathy. |
