| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Theodore J. "Ted" Schlitt Jr. of | 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on December 17, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was born to Theodore "Ted" J. Schlitt | 6 | | Sr. and Edith Williams Schlitt in Springfield on February 24, | 7 | | 1938; he was a resident of Springfield for all of his life; he | 8 | | earned his degree in engineering from Northwestern University; | 9 | | he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era, and he | 10 | | served as a lieutenant (junior grade) in the Navy Supply | 11 | | Corps; he married Sheila Agnes Conaghan on June 29, 1968; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was the third generation owner of | 13 | | Schlitt Supply, which was started by his grandfather in 1908; | 14 | | after retirement, he worked at the Illinois Department of | 15 | | Transportation Bureau of Railroad since 1998; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt ran as a write-in mayoral candidate | 17 | | of Leland Grove and won, serving as mayor from 1979 to 1991; | 18 | | and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was an officer in the American | 20 | | Business Club for many years and a former member of the Sangamo | 21 | | Club; he was also an active member and board member of the |

| 1 | | Illini Country Club; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was an avid tennis player, golfer, | 3 | | bicyclist, snow skier, and bridge player; he will be | 4 | | remembered as the best of the best; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt was preceded in death by his parents; | 6 | | and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Ted Schlitt is survived by his wife; his | 8 | | daughters, Carrie Jane "CJ" (Dr. JK) Guarasci and Emily Agnes | 9 | | (Chad) Burds; his grandchildren, Jacob Guarasci, Lexi | 10 | | Guarasci, Carter Burds, and Payton Burds; and his sister, | 11 | | Janet Louise (James) Norris; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | Theodore J. "Ted" Schlitt Jr. and extend our sincere | 15 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 16 | | him; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Ted Schlitt as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy.
