| 2 | | WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the | 3 | | members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to | 4 | | congratulate the 5 Girl Scout councils that represent Illinois | 5 | | on the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts have a long-standing commitment to | 7 | | the well-being of girls and serve more than 167,494 girls and | 8 | | adult volunteers throughout the State of Illinois; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, For over a century, Girl Scouts have been actively | 10 | | engaged in the lives of girls; the Girl Scouts have been a | 11 | | resource and expert on their growth and development; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, To advance the mission of building girls of | 13 | | courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better | 14 | | place, and ensure that all girls have the opportunity to be | 15 | | successful, the Girl Scouts serve as a resource for | 16 | | information, advice, and support; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts have 4 issues of particular | 18 | | interest, including: healthy living and promoting girls' | 19 | | physical, social, and emotional health; STEM-increasing girls | 20 | | involvement in science, technology, engineering, and math | 21 | | (STEM); girls and leadership; and financial literacy; |

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 3 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 4 | | we congratulate the Girl Scouts on their 100th anniversary and | 5 | | wish them continued success and good fortune in the future and | 6 | | declare 2012 as the "Year of the Girl"; and be it further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, the Girl | 9 | | Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, the Girl Scouts of | 10 | | Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, the Girl Scouts of | 11 | | Northern Illinois, and the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois as | 12 | | a symbol of our respect and esteem.
