| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Warren F. Craig of Normal, who passed | 4 | | away on May 26, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Warren Craig was born in Fairbury on December 24, | 6 | | 1920 to Will and Georgia Craig; he served in the United States | 7 | | Army during World War II; after the war, he graduated from | 8 | | Illinois State Normal University (ISU) and earned a master's | 9 | | degree from the University of Illinois; he married Joybelle | 10 | | Dickey in 1946; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Warren Craig served as Unit 5's first reading | 12 | | coordinator; he taught speech, English, reading, and drama in | 13 | | Lincoln, Bloomington, and Normal; he also operated Craig Canvas | 14 | | Service for more than 50 years; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Warren Craig was an active member of the North | 16 | | Bridge Baptist Church in Normal; he held many church offices | 17 | | and was part of the American Baptist men's disaster relief | 18 | | team; he formed the first neighborhood association in Normal | 19 | | and assisted other neighborhoods to do the same; he and his | 20 | | wife became the first off-campus ISU student housing providers | 21 | | to integrate their rented rooms; they later hosted many | 22 | | international students and, in return, were welcomed visitors |

| 1 | | to homes in Japan and Germany; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Warren Craig enjoyed using his dramatic talents | 3 | | for the benefit of the McLean County Historical Society, the | 4 | | Masons, and the Retired Teachers Association; the first local | 5 | | Habitat for Humanity warehouse started in his garage; he wrote | 6 | | and published a newsletter for his camping club; in recognition | 7 | | of his contributions to the community, Normal named him its | 8 | | 2006 Citizen of the Year; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Warren Craig was preceded in death by his | 10 | | brothers, Sterling and Willard, and his sister, Jean Sutter; | 11 | | and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Warren Craig is survived by his wife, Joybelle; | 13 | | his sister, Helen Fecske; his children, Dr. Barbara | 14 | | Craig-Schniepp, Shirley (James Robinson), Linda (Rodney Reed), | 15 | | and Paul (Inyoung); his granddaughters, Dr. Sara Robinson (Dr. | 16 | | Matt Powers), Julia Robinson, and Elizabeth Craig; and his | 17 | | great-granddaughter, Scout Robinson Powers; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 | | Warren F. Craig, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 22 | | further
