| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Roberta Ann Fruth, who passed away on | 4 | | June 12, 2019 at the age of 69; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Roberta (McCabe) Fruth was born on September 22, | 6 | | 1949 to Robert McCabe and Anna Mae Schomaker, proud residents | 7 | | of Lebanon in St. Clair County; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth moved to Chicago in 1973 with her | 9 | | husband, Steven Fruth, and worked the night shift at St. Anne's | 10 | | Hospital to support her husband as he earned his Juris | 11 | | Doctorate; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth received her associate's degree in | 13 | | nursing from Belleville Area College; she worked full time as a | 14 | | registered nurse while earning her Bachelor of Science in | 15 | | Nursing from St. Louis University; she earned a Master of | 16 | | Science in Nursing from Rush University and attained her Ph.D. | 17 | | from the University of Illinois at Chicago; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth spent much of her life pursuing her | 19 | | passion for education by continuing to strive for her own | 20 | | academic and professional achievements and by mentoring and | 21 | | inspiring many young nurses and healthcare leaders to pursue |

| 1 | | their own academic successes in enduring efforts to improve | 2 | | patient care and safety; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth spent her nursing career of 50 years | 4 | | advocating for higher standards and better resources for nurses | 5 | | and patients alike, working until her last days to help improve | 6 | | the quality of patient care; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth, through her constant efforts and | 8 | | tireless years working to advance the practice of nursing, | 9 | | quickly became a well-respected and admired leader in the field | 10 | | of nursing across the country and, after serving as an elected | 11 | | officer on numerous nursing organizational boards, was proudly | 12 | | inducted in 2007 as a Fellow of the American Academy of | 13 | | Nursing; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth was a proud daughter of the great | 15 | | State of Illinois and was well-traveled; she found joy and | 16 | | enlightenment in her many experiences the world over, from | 17 | | hospitals in Canada and Chile to medical clinics in Saudi | 18 | | Arabia and Singapore; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth was an active and devoted member of | 20 | | the Oak Park community for over 40 years, where she raised and | 21 | | inspired her three children to follow in her footsteps of | 22 | | commitment to service; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth was thankful for the wonderful years | 2 | | she had, full of adventures with her dear friends and family; | 3 | | and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Roberta Fruth is survived by her loving husband of | 5 | | 47 years, Steven; her siblings, Bob, Ed, Mary, and Elizabeth | 6 | | Raleigh (Thomas); her children, Matthew Fruth (Erin), David | 7 | | Fruth, and Susan Fruth (Craig Kidwell); and her beloved | 8 | | grandchildren, Maggie and Kate; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Roberta Ann Fruth and extend our sincere condolences to her | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 13 | | further
