| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of
James L. Ellis of North Chicago, who | 4 |
| passed away on July 7, 2008; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, James L. Ellis was born on March 3, 1947 in | 6 |
| Shawneetown; his parents were Hobart Ellis, Sr. and Lucille | 7 |
| (Rice) Ellis; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, James L. Ellis served with pride and distinction | 9 |
| as a member of the United States Marine Corps, receiving the | 10 |
| National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam | 11 |
| Campaign Medal, and two Purple Heart Medals; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, James L. Ellis had a devoted career as the Fifth | 13 |
| Ward Alderman for the City of North Chicago, serving on several | 14 |
| committees; he also served as business owner of the Valero Gas | 15 |
| Station in North Chicago; and | 16 |
| WHEREAS, James L. Ellis found peace and enjoyment in | 17 |
| gardening, hunting, and fishing, yet always made his family the | 18 |
| highest priority; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, James L. Ellis was preceded in death by his | 20 |
| parents, Hobart Ellis, Sr. and Lucille Ellis, and his brothers, |

| Hobart Ellis, Jr., Eugene Ellis, and Ben Ellis; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, James L. Ellis is survived by his wife of 40 | 3 |
| years, Carol; his sons, Andrew (Lisa) and Robert (Shena); his | 4 |
| sister, Violet L. Staples; his brother, David (Loretta); his | 5 |
| sister-in-law, Evelyn Ellis; his grandchildren, Auriel, | 6 |
| Khadijah, Amani, Damien, Ashley, Robert, Jr., Jovonte, and | 7 |
| Andrew; and his many other relatives and dear friends; | 8 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | 10 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 11 |
| his family and friends, the passing of James L. Ellis; and be | 12 |
| it further
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 |
| presented to the family of James L. Ellis as an expression of | 15 |
| our sympathy.
