| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Jeannette M. Zeck, who passed away on | 4 | | February 19, 2019 at the age of 50; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck was born on August 19, 1968 and | 6 | | grew up in Lake County, where she attended high school in | 7 | | Grayslake, and later became a resident of Oak Park; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck attended Knox College and met her | 9 | | future husband on their first day in Galesburg; they noticed | 10 | | each other but did not go on their first date until a year | 11 | | later on March 5, 1987; they were married in September of 1998; | 12 | | she then attended DePaul University in order to earn her | 13 | | master's degree in psychology; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck worked at a shelter for homeless | 15 | | women during her time at DePaul, finding a sense of purpose and | 16 | | pride in helping them; she counseled and cooked for the women | 17 | | at the shelter and typically ended or started her shifts at | 18 | | midnight; she then started working in the mail room of the | 19 | | Chicago Laborers Pension and Welfare fund, beginning a 26 year | 20 | | career, and eventually became the director of the pension | 21 | | department, overseeing a staff of 16; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck developed an interest in gardening | 2 | | and growing her own food while living with her husband in Oak | 3 | | Park; this led to the development of the Deep Roots Project, an | 4 | | organization that promotes the use of native plants and growing | 5 | | healthy foods; together, she and her husband planted 16 parkway | 6 | | gardens in the area; she converted to Buddhism shortly after | 7 | | her husband converted, finding that it made a positive impact | 8 | | on her life; she then became a member of the Kadampa Meditation | 9 | | Center of Chicago; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck was preceded in death by her | 11 | | parents, Harold and Catherine Zeck; her sister, Elizabeth Zeck; | 12 | | and her brother, Stephen Zeck; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Jeannette Zeck is survived by her husband, David | 14 | | Murphy; her sisters, Patricia Carlson and Theresa O'Reilly; her | 15 | | brother, David Zeck; her sisters-in-law, Linda and Kathleen; | 16 | | her brother-in-law, Richard; and her nieces and nephews that | 17 | | she considered her own, Elizabeth, Nicole, Megan, Shelbie, | 18 | | Alexia, Michael, and Louis; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 21 | | Jeannette M. Zeck and extend our sincere condolences to her | 22 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 23 | | further
