HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Farmingdale Presbyterian
4Church, located in Pleasant Plains, on the occasion of its
5190th anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Farmingdale Presbyterian Church was founded in
71834, with its origins beginning near Potsdam, New York on
8August 20, 1833; at that time, 52 people uprooted their lives
9to travel by wagon to Sangamon County, Illinois, arriving in
10October 1833; a majority of the company settled temporarily in
11Old Sangamo Town, a town a few miles northwest of Springfield,
12before relocating west near Prairie Creek in the spring of
131834, and the settlers consented to organizing a Presbyterian
14church; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Farmingdale Presbyterian Church's first structure
16was built in the foreground of the cemetery on land given by
17Luther A. Ransom; the church was then known as Farmington
18Church, later gaining its current name around 1905; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Farmingdale Presbyterian Church's second
20structure was erected approximately a half mile west of the
21cemetery in 1859, which served the church congregation until
22construction of its current building began in 1980; and

1    WHEREAS, Today, Farmingdale Presbyterian Church's
2congregation is able to pursue a number of church activities,
3including worship services, Sunday school, Vacation Bible
4School, youth activities, and a women's association, and the
5church also continues to maintain a strong emphasis on mission
6work; and
 
7    WHEREAS, For the past 190 years, Farmingdale Presbyterian
8Church has served as a celebration of its congregation's faith
9in a rural setting while establishing itself as a community
10leader and a spiritual resource; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate Farmingdale Presbyterian Church on its 190th
14anniversary; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Farmingdale Presbyterian Church as an expression
17of our esteem and respect.
