| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jack
D. | 4 | | Davis of Springfield, who passed away on February 4, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Davis was born in Chicago to Russell and Edna | 6 | | Bender on September 6, 1935; his father
died when he was a | 7 | | child after which the family moved to a farm in Jefferson | 8 | | County, where his
mother married his adoptive father, Melcher | 9 | | "M.C." Davis; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jack Davis began college at the age of 15 at | 11 | | Southern Illinois University; he graduated at the age of 19 and | 12 | | shipped
off to Naval Officer Candidate School; he served as a | 13 | | lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during
the Cold War; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Following his naval service, Jack Davis worked as | 15 | | a counselor for the disabled; he met Virginia
"Ginny" Griffin | 16 | | and they soon married; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Once Jack Davis and Ginny were married, they moved | 18 | | to Chicago and Jack began work in the steel
industry, where he | 19 | | built a successful steel company, Lexington Steel, which he | 20 | | sold in 1975 to focus on life as a public servant; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jack Davis served in the Illinois House of | 2 | | Representatives for 10 years before he was elected to the | 3 | | United States Congress in 1986; he served proudly on the House | 4 | | Armed Services
Committee; following his service in Congress, he | 5 | | and Ginny moved to Sangamon County; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Soon thereafter, President George H.W. Bush | 7 | | called Jack Davis back to Washington, D.C. to serve as
the | 8 | | Assistant Secretary of the United States Air Force; he served | 9 | | as assistant secretary during operations
Desert Shield and | 10 | | Desert Storm; he flew a combat mission over Iraq during his | 11 | | time in the desert
and was awarded the Meritorious Service | 12 | | Medal for his combat role; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Jack Davis returned to Sangamon County and had a | 14 | | successful radio program on WMAY for many years; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jack Davis had a love for traveling and he and | 16 | | Ginny made numerous trips to their home on
the Sea of Cortez in | 17 | | Mexico; he loved blue water and fishing; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Jack Davis is survived by his wife of 58 years; | 19 | | his children, Jill (Robert) Egizii, Heather (Charles IV)
| 20 | | Schenck, and Jack (Carolyn) Davis; and his nine beloved | 21 | | grandchildren; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 2 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
| 3 | | mourn the passing of Jack D. Davis, and extend our sincere | 4 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all
who knew and loved | 5 | | him; and be it further
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 | | presented to the family of Jack Davis as an
expression of our | 8 | | deepest sympathy.
