| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles | 4 | | Vester "C.V." Bass of Chicago, who passed away on February 4, | 5 | | 2014; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Charles Bass was born in Dockery, Mississippi on | 7 | | June 7, 1932 to Frank and Hattie (nee Bell) Bass; he attended | 8 | | Myrtle Hall High School in Clarksdale, Mississippi and served | 9 | | in the United States Army during the Korean War from March 1953 | 10 | | to March 1955; he was discharged as Private First Class; he | 11 | | settled in Chicago in 1955 and married Carrie that same year; | 12 | | and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Charles Bass was an entrepreneur, founding 2 | 14 | | businesses in the early 60s; he started B & B Fuel Oil and | 15 | | White Rose Cleaners/Plant; with White Rose Cleaners he served 4 | 16 | | locations on the Westside of Chicago for over 35 years; he | 17 | | eventually started a 3rd businesses, B & J Groceries, and a | 18 | | fourth, B & B Construction; B & B Construction provided | 19 | | concrete services to suburban Cook County and Chicagoland | 20 | | communities, and in 1990, the company was involved in the | 21 | | renovation of Buckingham Fountain, with Charles as a Master | 22 | | Cement Finisher; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Charles Bass was a founding member of Mount Olive | 2 | | Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, where he established the | 3 | | Usher Board in 1956 and served as its President; he also | 4 | | established the musical group "Gospel Jubilees"; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Charles Bass was united in marriage to Katherine | 6 | | Reid on December 21, 2012; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Charles Bass was preceded in death by his parents, | 8 | | and by his brothers, J.C. and Sylvester; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Charles Bass is survived by his wife, Katherine; | 10 | | his children, Anthony (Carmen), Jacqueline, Frank (Nadine), | 11 | | Brenda (James), Linda, Kabrina (Lacy), and Daryl (Patricia); | 12 | | his brothers, Reverend James (Helen) Bass and Elder Harry | 13 | | (Jessie Mae) Bass; his sister, Mamie James; his sisters-in-law, | 14 | | Barbara Bass, Eula (Edward) Sanders, Velma Jordan, Mary Jordan, | 15 | | and Nancy Jordan; his brothers-in-law, Lionel Jordan and Andrew | 16 | | Jordan; his 16 grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; his | 17 | | many nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends; and his special | 18 | | cousin, Henry Bass; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 20 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 21 | | we mourn the passing of Charles Vester "C.V." Bass, and extend | 22 | | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who |
