| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Dr. William Joseph Tansey, II, who passed | 4 | | away on December 20, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Tansey was born on December 31, 1936 | 6 | | in Chicago; he attended grade school in Oak Park, graduated | 7 | | from Loyola Academy, and earned his bachelor's degree from | 8 | | Loyola University of Chicago; he received his medical degree | 9 | | from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine; he married | 10 | | Jacqueline Vogel in 1965; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Tansey was an orthopedic surgeon for | 12 | | more than 50 years at Good Samaritan, St. Anne's, and Loretto | 13 | | hospitals; he was the former chief of staff at Good Samaritan | 14 | | Hospital in Downers Grove; he was a member of the planning | 15 | | committee in 1974 that led to the opening of the hospital in | 16 | | 1976 and served on the staff; he was named chief in 1981 and | 17 | | retired in 1999; he also taught orthopedic surgery at | 18 | | Northwestern University for over 35 years; he was the lead | 19 | | medical expert in the marketing of the first ever hand held | 20 | | x-ray device, the lixiscope; he traveled to China in 1985 on a | 21 | | Harvard Medical Sino scientific exchange; from 1998 to | 22 | | recently, he made 4 pilgrimages to Lourdes, France as part of a | 23 | | medical team; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Tansey earned his pilot's license in | 2 | | 1967 and enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve; he | 3 | | was attached to the medical unit at Elmondorf Air Force Base in | 4 | | Alaska; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Tansey was ordained a Roman Catholic | 6 | | deacon in 1999 for the Diocese of Joliet and was a long-time | 7 | | deacon at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Oakbrook | 8 | | Terrace; he helped many people through his involvement in | 9 | | Catholic Charities, the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, and the | 10 | | Knights of Malta; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Tansey joined the Sovereign Military | 12 | | Hospital Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta | 13 | | American Association, USA in 1996; he served on the Loyola | 14 | | Stritch School of Medicine Annual Award Dinner's Executive | 15 | | Committee for many years and was named general chairman in | 16 | | 1996; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Tansey served as a champion for the | 18 | | sick and the poor throughout his life; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Tansey was the beloved husband of 48 | 20 | | years of Jacqueline (nee Vogel); the loving father of William, | 21 | | John (Susan), Michael (Janeta), Michelle, Melissa (Yuthikar) |

| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 5 | | Dr. William Joseph Tansey, II, and extend our sincere | 6 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 7 | | him; and be it further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to the family of Dr. William Tansey as an expression | 10 | | of our deepest sympathy.
