| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Joyce E. Skoog of Hinsdale, who passed | 4 | | away on January 25, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog was born in Chicago on February 21, | 6 | | 1940 to Albert and Florence Anicich; she graduated from Bowen | 7 | | High School in Chicago and married Roy A. Skoog; she earned her | 8 | | master's degree in adult education from the University of | 9 | | Illinois and her Bachelor of Arts in communications and | 10 | | management from DePaul University; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, During her career, Joyce Skoog held senior | 12 | | management positions in fund development, community relations, | 13 | | communications, and continuing education; she retired in 2002 | 14 | | as Senior Vice-President of Institutional Advancement of the | 15 | | Aspen Institute; she previously worked for Arthur Anderson, the | 16 | | United Way, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the | 17 | | College of DuPage; she served the Village of Hinsdale for 20 | 18 | | years, holding positions on the Planning Commission, as a | 19 | | Trustee on the Village Board, as Chair of the Fire and Police | 20 | | Commission, as Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals, and as the | 21 | | first woman President of the Village; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog served on several boards and civic |

| 1 | | groups in the greater Chicago area and in 2002 was awarded the | 2 | | Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award from the Illinois | 3 | | Humanities Council; she was on the Executive Committee of the | 4 | | Ounce of Prevention Fund Board of Directors and was board Chair | 5 | | from 2005 to 2008; she was also a Trustee for the Chicago | 6 | | Theological Seminary; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog was an active member of the Union | 8 | | Church of Hinsdale, where she was on the Executive Council and | 9 | | had been the Chair of Trustees and Moderator of the Church; she | 10 | | continued learning throughout her life and completed a 4-year | 11 | | Asian Studies program at the Graham School of the University of | 12 | | Chicago and was enrolled in the Basic Program which explores | 13 | | Western culture; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog was preceded in death by her parents; | 15 | | and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Skoog is survived by her husband of 54 | 17 | | years, Roy A. Skoog; her children, Cheryl (Peter A.) Tague, | 18 | | Linda (Jeffrey G.) Sluman, Bradley A. Skoog, and Melissa (John | 19 | | Christopher) Dunagan; and her grandchildren, William Tague, | 20 | | Katie Sluman, Jack Dunagan, and Willa Dunagan; therefore, be it
