| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
John Carter Burdon of Washington, | 4 | | Illinois and Charleston, South Carolina, who passed away on | 5 | | January 16, 2011; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon was born on July 27, 1923, in Low | 7 | | Point; his parents were Stephen Malcolm and Beulah Maecrete | 8 | | Banta Burdon; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon served his country as a physician in | 10 | | the United States Naval Reserve during World War II and the | 11 | | Korean Conflict; he served from 1942 to 1963, when he retired | 12 | | at the rank of lieutenant commander; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon attended Knox College from 1940 to | 14 | | 1943 and earned his medical degree in anesthesiology from the | 15 | | University of Illinois Medical School in 1946; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon was the second member in the group of | 17 | | nine physicians in the Associated Anesthesiologists Medical | 18 | | Group; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon enjoyed professional tennis, the | 20 | | Green Bay Packers, the American Ballet Theatre, and Broadway |

| 1 | | Theater; he joined the Greater Charleston Duplicate Bridge Club | 2 | | in 1996 and achieved the rank of Silver Life Master; he also | 3 | | enjoyed duplicate bridge, tournament bridge, club bridge, | 4 | | party bridge, and playing tennis; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal | 6 | | Cathedral in Peoria; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon was preceded in death by his parents | 8 | | and his niece, Jean Cameron Burdon; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, John Burdon is survived by his brother, Stephen | 10 | | Banta Burdon; his niece, Katherine Ann Burdon; and his best | 11 | | friend, Lonnie Eugene Stewart; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 14 | | his family and friends, the passing of John Carter Burdon; and | 15 | | be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of John Burdon as an expression of our | 18 | | sympathy.
