| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of James Robert "J.R." Phillip Sr., of | 4 | | Westmont and formerly of Hinsdale, who passed away on June 22, | 5 | | 2010; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on July 8, 1925 to James A. | 7 | | and Helen Phillip; he was a navigator in the United States Air | 8 | | Force during World War II; he graduated from Northwestern | 9 | | University with a commerce degree; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, After graduation he joined his parents' flower | 11 | | business, Phillip's Flowers & Gifts, founded in Cicero, in | 12 | | 1923, where he remained actively involved for 61 years, serving | 13 | | as Chairman Emeritus until his passing; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, He was a co-founder and director of the Bank of | 15 | | LaGrange Park, a co-founder of the Metro Chicago Florist | 16 | | Delivery Co-op, and a member of the American Academy of | 17 | | Floriculture (AAF); and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, He was a man of faith and family, and was also a | 19 | | longtime member and past elder of Christ Church of Oak Brook; | 20 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, James Robert "J.R." Phillip Sr. is survived by his | 2 | | loving wife of 59 years, Mary B. Phillip; his sister, Lee | 3 | | Phillip Bell; his brother and business colleague, Russell | 4 | | Phillip; his children, Jim (Gwen), Don (Sandy), and Baxter | 5 | | (Martha) Phillip; his eight grandchildren; and his one | 6 | | great-grandson; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 9 | | his family and friends, the passing of James Phillip Sr.; and | 10 | | be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of James Phillip Sr. as a symbol of our | 13 | | sincere sympathy.
