| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives with to congratulate Commander Kristen Ziman | 4 | | on being appointed as the next Chief of Police for the City of | 5 | | Aurora; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Chief Ziman was born and raised in Aurora; she | 7 | | graduated from West Aurora High School; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Chief Ziman began working with the Aurora Police | 9 | | Department as cadet in 1991; she served 3 years as a cadet | 10 | | before becoming a sworn officer in 1994; she has worked in | 11 | | patrol, field training, community
policing, and investigations | 12 | | as a domestic violence detective, before being promoted to | 13 | | Sergeant in
2003; she was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008 and to | 14 | | Commander in 2010; she has been a trailblazer in a number of | 15 | | positions throughout her career and has worked
diligently to | 16 | | mentor other women in law enforcement, locally and nationally; | 17 | | she is the past
President of the National Association of Women | 18 | | Law Enforcement Executives; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Chief Ziman earned her associate's degree from | 20 | | Waubonsee Community College,
her bachelor's degree in criminal | 21 | | justice from Aurora University, and her master's degree in | 22 | | criminal
justice management from Boston University; in |

| 1 | | addition, she is a graduate of the FBI National
Academy and | 2 | | completed the Kellogg Women's Senior Leadership Program at | 3 | | Northwestern
University, the Senior Executives in State and | 4 | | Local Government at the Harvard Kennedy School of
Government, | 5 | | and the Senior Management Institute for Police; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Chief Ziman lives in Aurora with her spouse, | 7 | | Chris, and their children Megan, Jimmy,
Bailey, and Jacob; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Chief Ziman's recommendation to be appointed was | 9 | | approved by the Aurora City Council on January
12, 2016; she | 10 | | begins as the new Aurora Police Chief immediately, making her | 11 | | the first
female Chief in the Department's history and the 28th | 12 | | Chief in the history of the Department; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 14 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 15 | | congratulate Chief Kristen Ziman on being appointed as the next | 16 | | Chief of Police for the City of Aurora; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to Chief Ziman as an expression of our esteem and | 19 | | respect.
