| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jossie | 4 | | Pearl Johnson Wilson, who passed away on March 10, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jossie Johnson Wilson was born on August 24, 1947 | 6 | | in Lambert, Mississippi; her parents were Osa and Marie (nee | 7 | | Stewart) Jones; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, After completing her early primary education in | 9 | | Lambert, Mississippi, Jossie Johnson Wilson moved to Robbins in | 10 | | 1961 to live with her aunt, Bernice Barnes, who raised her as | 11 | | one of her own; she subsequently graduated from Dwight | 12 | | Eisenhower High School in 1965 and matriculated at the Worsham | 13 | | School of Mortuary Science before earning her Bachelor of Arts | 14 | | Degree at Governor's State University; she was inducted into | 15 | | the National Honor Society while in high school and was honored | 16 | | by Who's Who Among American Students in American Colleges and | 17 | | Universities for her scholastic ability and campus leadership; | 18 | | and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In 1971, Jossie Johnson Wilson joined the United | 20 | | States Postal Service as a Mail Handler at the Chicago Bulk | 21 | | Mail Center in Forest Park; she was subsequently promoted to | 22 | | the position of Clerk at the Postal Facility in Bedford Park |

| 1 | | before returning to Forest Park, where she served as the | 2 | | accounting clerk for 5 years; from 1979 to 1986, she served the | 3 | | Postal Service as the Supervisor of Mails in Forest Park; she | 4 | | was later promoted to various leadership positions within the | 5 | | Postal Service, including Material Management Specialist, | 6 | | Labor Relations Assistant, and Manager of Mail Processing; in | 7 | | 1993, she returned to her beloved Village of Robbins as | 8 | | Postmaster, where she spent the last decade of her 32-year | 9 | | career with the United States Postal Service; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jossie Johnson Wilson was a faithful member of New | 11 | | Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for almost 4 decades; she | 12 | | served as a member of the Senior Choir, the Willing Workers, | 13 | | and Sunday school teacher; after retiring to Jacksonville, | 14 | | Florida, she continued in fellowship and service to her God at | 15 | | the Philip R. Cousins African Methodist Episcopal Church, where | 16 | | she was pastored by the Rev. Eugene E. Moseley, Jr.; while | 17 | | there, she grew increasingly active as a member of the Senior | 18 | | Choir and as a leader in the Women's Ministry; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Jossie Johnson Wilson was preceded in death by her | 20 | | daughter, Tanya Johnson Neal; her granddaughter, Jasmyne | 21 | | Shepard; and her sisters, Marie Jelks and Eunice Jones; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Jossie Johnson Wilson is survived by her husband, | 23 | | Samuel Wilson; her daughter, Yolanda Shepard (Jeffery, Sr.); |

| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 16 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 17 | | we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of | 18 | | Jossie Pearl Johnson Wilson; and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Jossie Johnson Wilson as an | 21 | | expression of our sympathy.
