| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply | 3 | | saddened to learn of the death of Amos Everette Nicholson of | 4 | | Aurora, who passed away on October 6, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson was born on November 25, 1916, in | 6 | | Sandwich to Charles and Elsie Nicholson; he graduated from East | 7 | | Aurora High School in 1936, and began working with his father | 8 | | in the painting and decorating business; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson enlisted in the Army Air Corps | 10 | | during World War II and was trained as an aircraft mechanic; he | 11 | | was stationed with the 343rd Squadron, 98th Bomb Group in North | 12 | | Africa and Italy; he worked as a B-24 Liberator Crew Chief, | 13 | | achieving the rank of Master Sergeant; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson's artistic talents were well known | 15 | | to those in his unit; he painted the nose art on several of his | 16 | | squadron's bombers, including images of Snow White & the Seven | 17 | | Dwarfs and Prince Charming; he co-authored a book of his | 18 | | exploits entitled "Snow White Goes to War"; after a 2 year | 19 | | stint in Japan during the Korean Conflict, he returned to | 20 | | Aurora and continued to work in the painting/decorating | 21 | | business well into his 80's; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson was preceded in death by his wife | 2 | | of 59 years, Rita (Schramer) Nicholson; his parents, Charles | 3 | | and Elsie; his sisters, Doris, Helen, and Margaret; and his | 4 | | brother, Burnette; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson is survived by his sons, Lynn | 6 | | (Slawa) and Kent (Sue) and his grandson, Adam; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Amos Nicholson, and we extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Amos Nicholson as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy.
