| 2 | | WHEREAS, National Catholic Schools Week, the annual | 3 | | celebration of Catholic education in the United States, began | 4 | | in 1974; it begins on the last Sunday in January and runs all | 5 | | week; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Schools typically observe the annual celebration | 7 | | with masses, open houses, and other activities for students, | 8 | | families, parishioners, and community members; through these | 9 | | events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides | 10 | | to young people and its contributions to churches, communities, | 11 | | and the nation; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2019 | 13 | | was "Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed"; the theme | 14 | | encompasses the core values that can be found in Catholic | 15 | | schools across the country; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Catholic Schools in Illinois are recognized for | 17 | | their academic excellence and their ability to provide students | 18 | | with an exceptional scholastic experience; In Illinois, | 19 | | Catholic schools like St. Philip Neri instill the core values | 20 | | of mercy, integrity, and service that results in graduates | 21 | | being well prepared for secondary education and lifelong | 22 | | learning; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, St. Philip Neri has been a strong presence in the | 2 | | South Shore Community since it first opened in 1913; its | 3 | | mission is to provide a high-quality 21st century Catholic | 4 | | STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) | 5 | | education to children of diverse religious affiliations; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, St. Philip Neri School is prepared to carry on its | 7 | | mission in timely and relevant ways, while continuing to teach | 8 | | and nurture students in a strong curriculum; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 10 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 11 | | we commend Catholic schools in Illinois as they teach students | 12 | | to become future leaders, faith-filled disciples, and enriched | 13 | | citizens of their communities, and we recognize St. Philip Neri | 14 | | for the role it plays in the Catholic education of students in | 15 | | Illinois; and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to St. Philip Neri School.
