| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Richard D. Holtfreter of Harvard, who | 4 | | passed away on June 20, 2010; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born February 12, 1936, in Woodstock, to | 6 | | Albert Holtfreter and Emma Phillipina Phillip; he married | 7 | | Phyllis Anne Margaret DeWeerth on July 19, 1958, at Grace | 8 | | Lutheran Church in Woodstock; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He graduated from Woodstock High School, attended | 10 | | Western Illinois University, and graduated from Carthage | 11 | | College in Carthage; he belonged to the Retired Teacher | 12 | | Association, the Athletic Director Association, the Harvard | 13 | | Moose, the Jaycees, and the Elks; he was a past president of | 14 | | the Lions, and a city councilman for Harvard; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, He will be remembered as the wrestling coach for | 16 | | Harvard High School from 1979 to 1987; his 11 seasons included | 17 | | 11 State placewinners, 2 State individual champions, winning 7 | 18 | | regionals, one sectional, and taking second place in the team | 19 | | dual State tournament in 1987; in 1983 the team tied for the | 20 | | Class A State Wrestling Tournament team title, which became the | 21 | | pinnacle of his coaching career; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, During his time as a physical education teacher, | 2 | | Richard Holtfreter served as baseball, basketball, and track at | 3 | | different times; he retired in 1987; he is a member of the | 4 | | Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of | 5 | | Fame; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Holtfreter; | 7 | | his three children, Cynthia Holtfreter, Mark (Dee) Holtfreter, | 8 | | and David (Charlene); his four grandchildren, Cassidy, Logan, | 9 | | Kenzie, and Kearra; and his two sisters, Jeanette Wesemann and | 10 | | Carol Jarnecke; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 13 | | his family and friends, the passing of Richard Holtfreter; and | 14 | | be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Richard D. Holtfreter as a symbol of | 17 | | our sincere sympathy.
