| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John "Jack" Phalin of McHenry, who passed | 4 | | away on September 18, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Phalin was born on a farm in south McHenry to | 6 | | Thomas and Ellen (Spencer) Phalin on January 30, 1927; he | 7 | | served in the United States Navy and married Marilyn J. Kerns | 8 | | at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McHenry on February 7, 1948; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, John Phalin held various jobs, including working | 11 | | at his grandfather Spencer's feed mill, the McHenry Ice Cream | 12 | | Factory, and many years of sales positions; he owned and | 13 | | operated Jack's Sunrise Grocery and Liquor in McHenry from 1968 | 14 | | until his retirement in 1988; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, John Phalin was affectionately known as "Smiling | 16 | | Jack"; he was a life member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge | 17 | | 691 and American Legion Post 491; he marched in the rifle squad | 18 | | and enjoyed camping and spending time with his family; he also | 19 | | enjoyed taking his annual trip to Florida to visit his | 20 | | grandchildren; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, John Phalin was preceded in death by his parents; |

| 1 | | his wife of 63 years, Marilyn; his brother, William (Mary) | 2 | | Phalin; and his grandsons, Jonathan C. Bowles and John Alan | 3 | | Bowles; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, John Phalin is survived by his children, Alan | 5 | | (Karen Crones) and Jacleen "Jackie" (Jim) Bowles; his | 6 | | grandchildren, Vanessa (Mike) Prather, Jim Bowles (Loretta | 7 | | Sizemore), Kelsy Marquart, Karlie Crones, and Jamie Crones; his | 8 | | great-grandchildren, Jimmy Bowles and Casey Prather; his | 9 | | brothers, Larry (Pat) Phalin and Don (Arlene) Phalin; his | 10 | | sister, Trisha McDaniel; and many nieces and nephews; | 11 | | therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | John "Jack" Phalin, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 16 | | further
