| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bradley | 4 |
| Eugene Horton of Peoria, who passed away January 29, 2010; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Bradley Eugene Horton was born October 3, 1950 to | 6 |
| William "Bill" and Bernice E. Deets Horton of Dixon; he was the | 7 |
| older of two children, having a younger brother, Brian; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He excelled in athletics and extracurricular | 9 |
| activities at Polo Community High School; he was a receiver on | 10 |
| the football team, played forward on the basketball team (on | 11 |
| which he also had the highest free throw shooting percentage), | 12 |
| was the track team's best high jumper, and participated in | 13 |
| band, chorus, and drama club; he graduated with the Class of | 14 |
| 1968; and

| WHEREAS, He went on to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree | 16 |
| from Western Illinois University in 1972 and earned his MBA | 17 |
| from Western Illinois University in 1974; after collegiate | 18 |
| studies, he went to work for Jenn Realty and taught business | 19 |
| classes at Midstate College in Peoria; he would later teach | 20 |
| real estate courses at Illinois Central College; and | 21 |
| WHEREAS, In 1975, Bradley left real estate to work in the |

| Peoria Township Assessor's Office; after the death of incumbent | 2 |
| assessor Bob Potter, he mounted campaigns for the assessor | 3 |
| position in 1981 and 1982 and won the position, a position | 4 |
| which he held for five terms and was recognized for his service | 5 |
| of over 18 years as Township Assessor; and | 6 |
| WHEREAS, While serving as Peoria Township Assessor, he | 7 |
| taught others as an instructor for the Illinois Property | 8 |
| Assessment Institute; he continued educating other assessors | 9 |
| in Illinois and Indiana until his death; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, He was elected Peoria County Recorder of Deeds in | 11 |
| 2000; as Recorder of Deeds he was responsible for the | 12 |
| recording, scanning, and microfilming of legally executed real | 13 |
| estate documents and maintaining records dating back to 1825; | 14 |
| and | 15 |
| WHEREAS, He was active in local politics as a member of the | 16 |
| Board of Directors and later, President, of the 2nd Ward | 17 |
| Republican Men's Club, as well as serving as a Republican | 18 |
| Precinct Committeeman; and | 19 |
| WHEREAS, He was active in his community, serving as past | 20 |
| president of the Downtown Kiwanis Club, as a member of the | 21 |
| Peoria Township Officials Organization, Peoria County | 22 |
| Assessor's Association, Illinois Assessor's Association, and |

| on the statewide Board of Directors of the Township Officials | 2 |
| of Illinois for 13 years; and
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, Bradley Horton is survived by his wife, Nancy Kay | 4 |
| Gustine Horton; his daughter, Alicia; his son-in-law, Derek, | 5 |
| and his two grandsons, Cayden and Brady; therefore, be it
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 7 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 8 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of | 9 |
| Bradley Eugene Horton; and be it further
| 10 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 |
| presented to the family of Bradley Eugene Horton as an | 12 |
| expression of our sincere sympathy.
