| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Edward Anton Karasek on | 4 | | the occasion of his retirement from the Berwyn Park District | 5 | | Board of Commissioners after 50 years; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Edward Karasek has been an elected member of the | 7 | | Board since March of 1966; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Over his 50 years of service to the District, | 9 | | Edward Karasek has served as Board President twice
and | 10 | | currently serves as Board Secretary, a position he has held for | 11 | | many years; he currently
serves as Chairman of the Finance | 12 | | Committee and is a member of the
Building and Grounds | 13 | | committee; he previously served as the voting delegate for
the | 14 | | former Suburban Risk Management Agency and subsequently the | 15 | | Park District
Risk Management Agency; he attended the Illinois
| 16 | | Association of Park Districts annual conference and the | 17 | | Legislative Conference, where he
utilized his experience and | 18 | | personal relationships developed over the years with
| 19 | | legislators to support park district and recreation | 20 | | initiatives; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Edward Karasek volunteers with the Proksa Park | 22 | | Garden Club and works daily to help
maintain the Children's |

| 1 | | Garden located in the Proksa Park's Teeter Center area; he has | 2 | | been a continuous member of the local Parent Teacher | 3 | | Association since 1958,
and, along with his wife of 64 years, | 4 | | Mary, takes a continued interest in the education of
toddlers | 5 | | through local college-age students; his expertise and | 6 | | understanding of finance
helped the Berwyn Park District | 7 | | weather the financial downturn that affected the
economy; he is | 8 | | often quoted in the local paper for his comments and | 9 | | suggestions made
at local school, city, and other public | 10 | | meetings; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Edward Karasek has been a member of the Kiwanis | 12 | | Club of Berwyn since
1952 and is one of the few members that | 13 | | can boast a perfect attendance record; during
his tenure with | 14 | | the Kiwanis Club of Berwyn, he has served as President, | 15 | | Vice-President,
Special Projects Chairman, and has served on | 16 | | the Board of Directors numerous times; his tireless efforts in | 17 | | helping to raise funds have allowed the club to donate more | 18 | | than
$550,000 back to charities, agencies, and organizations in | 19 | | the Berwyn area; this
includes the donation of furnishings for | 20 | | the community room at the Berwyn Public
Library, donations to | 21 | | the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts, the Special Olympics, park
| 22 | | district programs, and many others; and | 23 | | WHEREAS, Edward Karasek is a charter member of the Berwyn | 24 | | Development
Corporation since March 14, 1983 and has served as |

| 1 | | President and Vice-President with
distinction; he is also | 2 | | involved in other civic organizations and groups such
as the | 3 | | All Berwyn Committee, where he serves on the Board of | 4 | | Directors; he is a former
member of the Berwyn Home Owners | 5 | | Association and is an active member of the
Democratic Committee | 6 | | of Berwyn; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, In 2011, Edward Karasek was awarded the | 8 | | distinguished Commissioner of the Year award by the
Illinois | 9 | | Association of Park Districts at the annual conference in | 10 | | Chicago; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Edward Karasek was employed with a Berwyn | 12 | | automobile dealer and handled many of the office-related | 13 | | business and finance duties; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Edward Karasek has indisputably made and | 15 | | continues to make immeasurable differences in
the quality of | 16 | | life of the residents of the Berwyn Park District and the City | 17 | | of Berwyn; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 19 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 20 | | congratulate Edward Anton Karasek on his retirement from the | 21 | | Berwyn Park District Board of Commissioners after 50 years, and | 22 | | we wish him the best in all of his future endeavors; and be it |
