SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William Eugene "Gus" Hopper of Gillespie, who passed away on March 10, 2021; and

WHEREAS, William Hopper was born in Henderson to Vernie Hopper and Kathleen (McFarlan) Hopper on December 5, 1925; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; he married Ivonia (Rademacher) Hopper in Gillespie on January 23, 1946, and she preceded him in death on October 12, 2020; and

WHEREAS, William Hopper was a retired coal miner and steelworker; and

WHEREAS, William Hopper was a member of the United Steel Workers Union and the Gillespie Lions Club; he was an avid bowler and the secretary of the bowling league; and

WHEREAS, William Hopper was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse; his son, William E. Hopper; his brothers, Jim Hopper and Richard Hopper; and his sisters, Lois Keck and Dorothy Bone; and

WHEREAS, William Hopper is survived by his son, Wendell Hopper, and his grandchildren, Brennan Hopper and Jessica (Tim) Reid; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William Eugene "Gus" Hopper and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Hopper as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
