HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Gerald McClallen on becoming the President of the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society at the Presidential Banquet to be held on December 4, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McClallen is the Chief of Staff and Chair of the Medical Executive Committee for St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, where he is the Director of Emergency Medicine; and

WHEREAS, As Chief of Staff, he also represents the medical staff on the Southern Illinois Healthcare Board of Trustees; he is also on the staff of Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and Herrin Hospital; he is also a part-time attending physician at the Southern Illinois University Student Health Center in Carbondale; and

WHEREAS, He is a member of the Physician Health Organization Steering Committee and the Professional Services Committee; he previously served as Chief Deputy Coroner for Jackson County, and as Physician Medical Director for Region Five of the Southern Illinois EMS System; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McClallen is a 1977 honors graduate of the University of Illinois, serving as a Research Assistant; he later attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri; after medical school, he did a rotating osteopathic internship at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri, and a Residency in Emergency Medicine at what is now South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, He was presented the Teacher of the Year award by the Residents of the Southern Illinois University Family Practice program in 1994 and again in 2001 when he was chosen as a co-recipient; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McClallen is a past Associate Clinical Professor for the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine; he was Chair of the Hospital Based Physicians Committee (1997), Emergency Medicine Committee (1996-2002), Critical Care Committee (1997), and Observation Committee (1999), as well as serving on the Executive Committee for St. Joseph Hospital; he teaches as an Advanced Trauma Life Support Guest Lecturer for Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and is an instructor of Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support; and

WHEREAS, He has served as Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society District 5 Trustee, Legislative Chair, and Membership Committee Chair; he has served as Program Chair for the 2010 Winter Continuing Medical Education Program; he is a member of the Illinois delegation to the American Osteopathic Association House of Delegates, serving as Vice President in 2008-2009, and in December of 2009 as President-Elect; and

WHEREAS, He and his wife, Deborah, have 4 children and 1 grandchild; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Gerald McClallen on becoming the President of the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society and wish him continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Gerald McClallen as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
