HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Alan Harold Joens, Sr. of Park Forest, who passed away on March 29, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Alan Joens, Sr. was born in Chicago on August 14, 1961 to Vernon and Barbara Joens; he graduated from Curie High School; in 1997 he married Mary Kay Joens and relocated to Park Forest; and

WHEREAS, Alan Joens, Sr. served on the board and as a field director of PONY Baseball and as Chairman of the Park Forest Baseball League; he was actively involved in youth sports including coaching, umpiring, refereeing, and fundraising; he was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing and anything outdoors; and

WHEREAS, Alan Joens, Sr. always had a special place in his heart for individuals with disabilities; in 2012, he created the first Day of Champions, a day in which children with various types of disabilities could come out to the ball field and work with the coaches from Park Forest Baseball; and

WHEREAS, Alan Joens, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Alan Joens, Sr. was the beloved husband of 17 years to Mary Kay Joens (nee Graefnitz); the loving father of Alan Harold Joens, Jr. "A.J."; the dear brother of Vernon Joens, Jr. and Cindy (Richard) Wendel; the cherished uncle of Addy Wendel; and the dear son-in-law of William (Marlene) Graefnitz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alan Harold Joens, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alan Joens, Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
