SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new

    Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Prohibits a person from serving as a Representative for more than 3 terms of office that begin on or after the date that the Constitutional Amendment is declared adopted. Prohibits a person from serving as a Senator for more than 3 terms of office that begin on or after the date that the Constitutional Amendment is declared adopted. Applies to the election of General Assembly members in the first general election to occur after the Amendment is declared adopted and thereafter. Specifies that it does not affect the terms of members elected before the amendment is declared adopted. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to amend the Illinois
9Constitution in Article IV by adding Section 2.5 as follows:

THE LEGISLATURE

12    (ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new)
13SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS
14    (a) A person may not serve as a Representative for more
15than 3 terms of office that begin on or after the date that
16this Section is declared adopted.
17    (b) A person may not serve as a Senator for more than 3
18terms of office that begin on or after the date that this
19Section is declared adopted.
20    (c) A person is considered to serve a term of office for
21the purpose of this Section if the person is elected or
22appointed to serve any portion of the term.

1    This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
2declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
3Constitutional Amendment Act and applies to the election of
4members of the General Assembly in the first general election
5to occur after this Amendment is declared adopted and
6thereafter. This Constitutional Amendment does not, however,
7affect the terms of members of the General Assembly elected
8before this amendment is declared adopted.
