HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On May 25, 2018, Indiana middle school teacher Jason Seaman risked his life to protect the lives of his students by subduing a student who came into his classroom and began opening fire with two handguns; and

WHEREAS, Jason Seaman and 13-year old student, Ella Whistler, were wounded by gunfire in the shooting; and

WHEREAS, Jason Seaman was released from the hospital Saturday, May 26, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Jason Seaman was a three-sport athlete when he attended high school in Mahomet, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, From 2007 until 2010, Jason Seaman played football for Southern Illinois University, where he was a defensive end, tallied 88 tackles and eight sacks with two forced fumbles in 47 games for the Salukis; and

WHEREAS, We salute Jason Seaman for his bravery and heroism and acknowledge that his actions saved many lives; and

WHEREAS, Jason Seaman is the embodiment of what it means to be a true American, and as a grateful neighboring state and as fellow Americans, we offer our full thoughts and prayers for a speedy and full recovery; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate, commend, and applaud Jason Seaman for his heroic actions that saved the lives of his students, and we wish him and Ella Whistler a speedy recovery; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Jason Seaman and to the Principal of Noblesville Middle School West.
