HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Janet Riess Brook of Antioch, who passed away on April 13, 2012; and

WHEREAS, She was born January 12, 1918 in Oak Park, the daughter of the late Harry John and Alice Irene (Lowrey) Riess; and

WHEREAS, She was an avid, lifelong Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed playing bridge and gardening; her family had a summer home on Channel Lake since 1911; she was a member of the Lakes Region Historical Society, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and past president of the Antioch Woman's Club; and she adored the color red; and

WHEREAS, She graduated from Beloit College in 1939 where she earned a BA in Geology, and was affiliated with Delta Delta Delta Sorority; she also met her future husband while attending Beloit College; from 1939 through 1941, she worked as a store tour guide for Marshall Fields department store; on May 24, 1941 she married William E. Brook in River Forest; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her daughter, Suraya Brook; and her brother, Morton Riess; and

WHEREAS, Janet Brook is survived by her daughter, Ainsley (Robert) Wonderling; her sister, Donna Abt; her nieces, Christine Abt, Karen (David) Clarbour, and Julie (Nick DeLeeuw); her nephews, David Abt and Bill (Colleen Downey) Riess; and her sister-in-law, Bobbie Riess; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Janet Brook; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Janet Brook as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
