SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Zelma Marble Sims Parker of Waukegan, who passed away on March 17, 2011; and

WHEREAS, She was born August 6, 1947 in Waukegan, to the late Essie Mae Glover-Duty and Melvin Sims Sr.; she accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Shiloh Baptist Church of Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, She received her education through the North Chicago Public School System; she worked at various places, including Abbott Laboratories, and provided in-home Child Care; and

WHEREAS, In August of 1996, she married Rodney Parker; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; a sister, Gloria Duty Woods; several aunts; uncles; and cousins; and

WHEREAS, Zelma Parker is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Rodney Parker; her daughter, Valerie (Mark) Carter; one granddaughter, Candace Carter; her stepson, Rodney Parker Jr.; her stepdaughter, Sytoria Parker; her step-grandson, A'yonn Parker; her sisters, Francine Duty-Jones and Patricia (Jarrett) Taylor; her brother, Melvin (Krista) Sims; her mother-in-law, Eddie Mae Parker; her sisters-in-law, Ida Cowin, Willie Jean Tilton, and Sabrina Parker; her brothers-in-law, James Woods and Willie (Fannie) Parker; her aunt, Louise Sims; her uncle, James "Buddy" Pruitt; her 5 godchildren, Andre Shaw, Pamela Stith, Jamal Foster, Mary Jude, and Christopher Jude; her oldest and dear friend, Ophelia Foster; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Zelma Marble Sims Parker; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Zelma Marble Sims Parker as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
