HOUSE RESOLUTION

2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Brazinski family on
4being named the 2021 Illinois Pork Producers Association
5Family of the Year; and

6    WHEREAS, The Brazinski family owns and operates the
7Brazinski Pork Farm located in Coulterville; the farm produces
834,000 market hogs per year in addition to a row crop farming
9operation that includes 2,200 acres of corn, soybeans, and
10wheat; and

11    WHEREAS, The family is led by Jim Brazinski, who is
12president of pig production companies Grand View Farm and
13Grand Tower Farm and the service agency Corn Silk LLC; and

14    WHEREAS, The family history of both Jim Brazinski's
15parents is rich in farming tradition; his paternal grandfather
16set up his farm in the current Coulterville location in the
171920s; since his parents grew up on farms caring for various
18animals, it was only natural for them to consider raising
19animals; and

20    WHEREAS, In 1984, Jim Brazinski graduated from SIU
21Carbondale and started constructing more hog buildings on the

1family farm to keep costs down; and

2    WHEREAS, Anything the Brazinski family thought they could
3build, they tried to build; this included building their own
4hog building, pouring concrete slats, building feeders and
5manure pumps, and designing and making curtain openers; and

6    WHEREAS, On a herd visit in 2006, Dr. Bill Hollis, a
7veterinarian with Carthage Veterinary Service, suggested that
8the Brazinski family join a sow farm to improve the
9consistency of their pig flows; this improved the health and
10efficiency of the growing hogs, and as a result, the family is
11still following this structure today; and

12    WHEREAS, Family is a huge part of the Brazinski's core
13values; this is evident as the family formed a small LLC called
14Corn Silk to hire their own caregivers to make sure Jim
15Brazinski's mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease
1613 years ago, was able to get compassionate reliable care; and

17    WHEREAS, The Brazinski family hopes the Brazinski Pork
18Farm will continue to grow in coming years as they strive to
19produce the best pork possible with care starting at the sow
20farm; therefore, be it
