| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Brazinski family on | 4 | | being named the 2021 Illinois Pork Producers Association | 5 | | Family of the Year; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Brazinski family owns and operates the | 7 | | Brazinski Pork Farm located in Coulterville; the farm produces | 8 | | 34,000 market hogs per year in addition to a row crop farming | 9 | | operation that includes 2,200 acres of corn, soybeans, and | 10 | | wheat; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, The family is led by Jim Brazinski, who is | 12 | | president of pig production companies Grand View Farm and | 13 | | Grand Tower Farm and the service agency Corn Silk LLC; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The family history of both Jim Brazinski's | 15 | | parents is rich in farming tradition; his paternal grandfather | 16 | | set up his farm in the current Coulterville location in the | 17 | | 1920s; since his parents grew up on farms caring for various | 18 | | animals, it was only natural for them to consider raising | 19 | | animals; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, In 1984, Jim Brazinski graduated from SIU | 21 | | Carbondale and started constructing more hog buildings on the |

| 1 | | family farm to keep costs down; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Anything the Brazinski family thought they could | 3 | | build, they tried to build; this included building their own | 4 | | hog building, pouring concrete slats, building feeders and | 5 | | manure pumps, and designing and making curtain openers; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, On a herd visit in 2006, Dr. Bill Hollis, a | 7 | | veterinarian with Carthage Veterinary Service, suggested that | 8 | | the Brazinski family join a sow farm to improve the | 9 | | consistency of their pig flows; this improved the health and | 10 | | efficiency of the growing hogs, and as a result, the family is | 11 | | still following this structure today; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Family is a huge part of the Brazinski's core | 13 | | values; this is evident as the family formed a small LLC called | 14 | | Corn Silk to hire their own caregivers to make sure Jim | 15 | | Brazinski's mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease | 16 | | 13 years ago, was able to get compassionate reliable care; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The Brazinski family hopes the Brazinski Pork | 18 | | Farm will continue to grow in coming years as they strive to | 19 | | produce the best pork possible with care starting at the sow | 20 | | farm; therefore, be it

| 1 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 2 | | we recognize the Brazinski family's hard work and wish them | 3 | | continued success with the Brazinski Pork Farm; and be it | 4 | | further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to the Brazinski family as a symbol of our respect | 7 | | and esteem.
