HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Landon
4"Walk" Walker Jr., who passed away on January 8, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Landon Walker was born to Landon Walker Sr. and
6Arthalia Miller Walker in Waterford, Mississippi on February
78, 1940; he attended Landon Elementary School, which was built
8by his father to serve the Laws Hills, Mississippi community;
9he went to Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi for one
10year; he married Bobra Jean Falkner on February 1, 1959; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Landon Walker worked various jobs across a number
12of industries, including steel, public transportation, and
13state government; he owned and operated a painting and
14construction business, a hand car wash, a delivery and
15messenger truck service, and a school bus company; he also
16worked at a local family-owned business named Falkner Bumper;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Landon Walker began working as assistant
19superintendent for the City of Harvey Public Works Department
20in 1982; he was eventually appointed to superintendent, and he
21served in that role until his retirement in 1995; while in
22retirement, he became a part-time bus driver for Beckham

1School Transit Company and later for Alltown; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Landon Walker was politically involved and served
3as precinct captain of Harvey; he ran for city commissioner
4and alderman in Harvey; he also helped local candidates with
5their political campaigns; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Landon Walker committed to his faith at a young
7age and attended New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Laws
8Hills, Mississippi as a child; he was an active member of
9Christ Temple Baptist Church in Markham, where he became a
10member in 1967 and served in the usher ministry; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Landon Walker enjoyed helping youth and adults in
12his community with employment opportunities or simply
13providing them with a family atmosphere; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Landon Walker was preceded in death by his wife;
15his parents; his sister, Azelle Alexander; and his brothers,
16Lannie Cummings, Russell Walker, Asa Walker, Leslie Walker,
17and George Walker; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Landon Walker is survived by his children, Brenda
19(Davis) Mason, Ricky (Bridgett) Walker-Abdul Baari, Perry
20(Iris) Walker, Kerry L. (Andria) Walker, and Kanefus Walker;
21his 12 grandchildren; his 21 great-grandchildren; his

1siblings, Eldridge (Deborah) Walker, McEwen (Urma) Walker, and
2Hattie Marion; his sisters-in-law, Mattie Walker, Ella
3Washington, Wheelock Patrick, Sarah Summerville, and Mary
4Falkner; his brother-in-law, Kent Falkner; his special
5cousins, Beatrice Miller-Peete, Robert Finley, and Charlie
6Walker; his niece, Fronnie Echols; and a host of other nieces,
7nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be
8it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of Landon "Walk" Walker Jr. and extend our
12sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
13and loved him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Landon Walker as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
