HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend Chancellor Michael Amiridis for his service to the University of Illinois Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Chancellor Amiridis became the sixth chancellor of the University of Illinois Chicago in early 2015, where he has become both a trusted colleague and a close friend to many; over the course of his career, he has elevated UIC and, with it, the entire University of Illinois System; and

WHEREAS, From the beginning, Chancellor Amiridis has focused on building on the strengths of the faculty, staff, and students of the University of Illinois Chicago; he has worked tirelessly to enhance local engagement to make UIC the university for Chicago while simultaneously expanding its state, national, and international impact; and

WHEREAS, Chancellor Amiridis has made numerous and significant contributions to the University of Illinois Chicago, including overseeing record numbers of enrollment while maintaining UIC's position as one of the nation's most diverse and affordable campuses; under his leadership, UIC surpassed a record $400 million in research awards and reached its bold fundraising goals in 2020; he also ably led the UI Health system to greater heights in order to provide critically important health care to all citizens while innovating drug discovery, surgery, nursing, population health, and vaccine development and deployment; and

WHEREAS, Chancellor Amiridis has also transformed the University of Illinois Chicago campus by overseeing the construction of the Engineering Innovation Building and the Academic Residential Complex, where hundreds of students now live and learn, with more major capital projects underway, including the Outpatient Surgery Center and the Computer Design Research and Learning Center; and

WHEREAS, Chancellor Amiridis has been named the next president of the University of South Carolina, effective July 1, 2022; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Chancellor Michael Amiridis for his extraordinary service to the University of Illinois Chicago, the University of Illinois System, the City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we wish his wife, Dr. Ero Aggelopoulo Amiridis, and him the very best as they begin the next chapter of their lives at the University of South Carolina; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chancellor Amiridis as an expression of our esteem and respect.
