HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charlene
4Louise Willis, who passed away on September 16, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charlene Willis was born to Ethel Louise and Mack
6Charles Moore; she graduated from East St. Louis Senior High
7School in 1963 and married Curtis Galloway Jr. the following
8year; she later married Pressgo Willis; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Charlene Willis worked for the United States
10Civil Service Commission in the Office of Personnel Management
11from 1969 until 1994; as a Black woman, she faced racism and
12discrimination throughout her career; after three years of
13retirement, she returned to the workforce as an employee of
14the private consulting firm Alsip, Incorporated; in 2000, she
15worked for the United States Census Bureau as a field
16operations supervisor for the 2000 census; in 2001, she began
17working as an adjudicator for the Illinois Department of
18Employment Security (IDES), where she was soon promoted to the
19role of supervisor; she was promoted again to the role of
20manager of the IDES East Saint Louis office; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Charlene Willis attended Rising Star Missionary
22Baptist Church in her formative years and joined the Junior

1and Intermediate choirs and served on the program committee;
2after a ten year absence, she returned to Rising Star; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Charlene Willis was a mentor and a story teller;
4she was beautiful and smart and loved to read; she was a deeply
5spiritual person; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charlene Willis was preceded in death by her
7parents, Ethel Louise and Mack Charles Moore; her husband,
8Pressgo Willis; her two brothers, Raymon Lee Moore and Bernard
9Charles Moore; and her sister, Brenda Kaye Moore; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Charlene Willis is survived by her son, Curtis
11Darryl; her daughter, Pamela Charlene; her grandchildren,
12Anthony Charles, Angela, Angelita, Shayla, Amber, Pamela
13(Muffin), Curtis Jr., and Tayanna; her 12 great-
14grandchildren; her sisters, Ethel Marie Samuel and Bernice
15Moore Crues; her nieces, Kimberly Marie Samuel and Chandra and
16Charice Moore; and her nephews, Michael (Valencia), Kelvin
17(Sabrina), and Darrin Curtis Samuel; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn the passing of Charlene Louise Willis and extend our
21sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
22and loved her; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Charlene Willis as an expression of
3our deepest sympathy.
