SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Clayton "Clay" Lynn Cope of Alton, who passed away on December 11, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Clay Cope was born to Lynn E. Cope and Carla M. Cope in Alton on December 27, 1991; he served in the U.S. Navy for six years and toured on the USS Eisenhower, reaching the rank of AT3 (AW); and

WHEREAS, While in the Navy, Clay Cope received a series of awards and decorations, including the national defense service medal and the global war of terrorism expeditionary medal; and

WHEREAS, Clay Cope died unexpectedly following a tornado incident at his place of work; he was helping others find shelter shortly before his passing; he will be remembered as a beloved son, brother, and friend; and

WHEREAS, Clay Cope is survived by his parents and his two sisters, Rachel B. Cope and Alexandra M. Cope; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Clayton "Clay" Lynn Cope and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Clay Cope as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
