SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois State Senator Gary Glenn Dahl of Peru, who passed away on October 1, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was born in Lake Mills, Iowa to Glenn and Evelyn (Hanson) Dahl on December 5, 1940; he spent his younger years enjoying life on the farm with his four sisters and brother; he served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962 as a helicopter mechanic; he married Deb on October 12, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was a truck driver and founded his own small business in 1985, the Double D Express; he grew the business from three trucks and drivers to 100 trucks, 350 trailers, and 200 employees; he treasured the friendships he made in the transportation world; and

WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl retired from the trucking industry and decided to run for Illinois State Senate in the 38th District, hoping to make a difference for the people in his district; he spent his time in Springfield being a voice for the people; during session, he lived in a recreational vehicle and donated his salary to charity; and

WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl resigned from the Illinois State Senate in 2010 to spend more time with his family; he was a philanthropist and contributed to numerous charities in his community for many years; he was known for his integrity, sincerity, loving heart, and kind soul; he was the rock of his family and a loyal friend and trusted teacher; and

WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Dahl-Taylor; his parents; his sisters, DeLoris Hanna, Darlene Madson, and Carol Christenson; and his brother, George Dahl; and

WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl is survived by his wife, Deb; his children, Kimberley Dahl, Ronald (Angela) Dahl, Sherry Wilkinson, and Deborah Dahl; his stepchildren, Jeremy (April) McIntosh and Samantha (Chris) Reum; his sister, Dorothy Gesme; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Senator Gary Glenn Dahl and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sen. Dahl as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
