 1        AN ACT concerning telecommunications.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding
 5    Section 13-501.5 as follows:

 6        (220 ILCS 5/13-501.5 new)
 7        Sec.  13-501.5.  Directory  assistance  service  for  the
 8    blind. Within 180 days  after  the  effective  date  of  this
 9    amendatory    Act   of   the   93rd   General   Assembly,   a
10    telecommunications carrier that provides directory assistance
11    service shall provide in its tariffs for  that  service  that
12    directory  assistance  shall  be provided at no charge to its
13    customers who are legally  blind  for  telephone  numbers  of
14    customers  located within the same calling area, as described
15    in the telecommunications carrier's tariff.

16        Section 99. Effective date. This Act  takes  effect  upon
17    becoming law.
