 1        AN ACT concerning higher education.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 1.  Short title. This Act may  be  cited  as  the
 5    Higher Education Institution Crime Statistics Act.

 6        Section 5.  Crime statistics audit.
 7        (a)  In  conjunction  with the required financial-related
 8    and compliance audit of each  public  institution  of  higher
 9    education  in Illinois, the Auditor General shall conduct and
10    report the results of a sample conducted for the  purpose  of
11    evaluating the accuracy of these institutions' statistics and
12    the  procedures  used  by  these  institutions  to  identify,
13    gather,  and  track  data  for publishing, disseminating, and
14    reporting accurate crime statistics in  compliance  with  the
15    requirements of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus
16    Security  Policy  and  Campus Crime Statistics Act (20 U.S.C.
17    Sec. 1092(f)).
18        (b)  The reports on the results of the  audits  described
19    in  subsection  (a) of this Section shall be submitted to the
20    General Assembly and the Governor,  as  required  in  Section
21    3-14 of the Illinois State Auditing Act.

22        Section  10.  Web  site link. The Auditor General and the
23    Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority shall provide
24    on their Internet Web sites a link to the Internet  Web  site
25    of  each  public  institution of higher education in Illinois
26    that includes on that Web  site  the  institution's  criminal
27    statistics information.

28        Section  99.   Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
29    becoming law.
