 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The Epoch Times  is  a  free,  Chinese  language
 3    newspaper, published locally and distributed worldwide; and

 4        WHEREAS,  Tuesday,  November  11,  2003  marked the third
 5    anniversary of the Midwest edition of The Epoch Times; and

 6        WHEREAS, On this anniversary, The  Epoch  Times  added  a
 7    Tuesday   edition  that  focuses  primarily  on  Chicago  and
 8    Illinois; and

 9        WHEREAS, The Epoch Times serves the City of Chicago,  the
10    State  of  Illinois,  and  the  Midwest,  distributing 23,000
11    copies weekly; and

12        WHEREAS, The Epoch Times  is  expanding  globally  to  30
13    countries with a world-wide circulation of about 700,000; and

14        WHEREAS,  The Epoch Times provides independent, objective
15    news coverage to the Chinese language communities; and

16        WHEREAS, The Epoch  Times  unequivocally  supports  human
17    rights,  freedom  of  speech, freedom of belief, rule of law,
18    and democracy; and

19        WHEREAS, The Epoch Times holds itself  to  the  strictest
20    ethical principles; and

21        WHEREAS,  The  Epoch  Times promotes mutual understanding
22    among peoples by explaining the achievements and  customs  of
23    cultures  of  both the west and the east in a sympathetic and
24    informed manner; and

25        WHEREAS, The Epoch Times  helps  its  readers  appreciate
26    what  is  best  in  the  United States while at the same time
27    coming to understand  what  is  best  in  their  own  ancient
28    culture; and

29        WHEREAS,  The  Epoch  Times  helps  the Chinese community

 1    integrate into the larger society by helping its readers gain
 2    an in-depth understanding of American life; therefore, be it

 3        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 4    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 5    we commend The Epoch Times for its service  to  Illinois  and
 6    congratulate The Epoch Times on its third anniversary; and be
 7    it further

 8        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 9    presented to The Epoch Times as an expression of our esteem.
