SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

    Amends the Township Code. Sets forth procedures for changing the time that township assessors or multi-township assessors enter upon their duties from the January 1 next following their election to the third Monday of May following their election. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing
5 Sections 50-5 and 50-15 as follows:
 
6     (60 ILCS 1/50-5)
7     Sec. 50-5. Time of election and terms outside Cook County.
8     (a) Except as provided for Cook County in Section 50-10,
9 and subject to the requirements of the general election law and
10 the referendum provisions in Sections 50-25 and 50-30, at the
11 time of the regular township election provided in the general
12 election law, there shall be elected one township collector.
13 The collector shall hold his office for a term of 4 years and
14 until a successor is elected and qualified.
15     (b) At the time of the regular township election provided
16 in the general election law, there shall be elected a township
17 supervisor. The supervisor shall be ex-officio supervisor of
18 general assistance. The supervisor shall hold office for a term
19 of 4 years and until a successor is elected and qualified.
20     (c) At the time of the regular township election provided
21 in the general election law, there shall be elected one
22 township clerk. The clerk shall hold office for a term of 4
23 years and until a successor is elected and qualified.

1     (d) At the time of the regular township election provided
2 in the general election law, there shall be elected by ballot
3 one township or multi-township assessor, as the case may be, in
4 the manner provided in the general election law. Except as
5 provided in subsection (c) of Section 50-15, the The assessor
6 shall hold office for a term of 4 years and until a successor
7 is elected and qualified.

10     Sec. 50-15. Time of entering upon duties.
11     (a) In all counties, the township collectors elected at the
12 township election shall enter upon their duties on January 1
13 next following their election and qualification.
14     (b) In all counties, township supervisors and township
15 clerks shall enter upon their duties on the third Monday of May
16 following their election.
17     (c) Beginning with elections in 1981 and through the
18 election immediately preceding the effective date of this
19 amendatory Act of the 95th General Assembly in all counties,
20 the township and multi-township assessors shall enter upon
21 their duties on January 1 next following their election.
22     In all counties, the term of the assessor or multi-township
23 assessor elected at the first election following this
24 amendatory Act of the 95th General Assembly shall begin on
25 January 1 next following his or her election and shall end on

1 the third Monday of May following the next election.
2 Thereafter, all assessors or multi-township assessors shall
3 serve a term of 4 years beginning on the third Monday of May
4 following their election.
