HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, One out of every five people in the United States of America is a person with a disability; and

WHEREAS, People with Disabilities aspire to embrace their rich historical and cultural heritage and to promote the belief in society that disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity; and

WHEREAS, The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed July 26, 1990, to end discrimination and provide equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation; and

WHEREAS, Nearly one million people with disabilities live and work in Cook County; and

WHEREAS, The Disability Pride Parade was established in Chicago as an annual event in July to change the way people think about and define disability; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the mission and spirit of the Disability Pride Parade, congratulate the parade organizers on their 5th Anniversary, and invite all people to join in celebrating the pride, potential, and power of People with Disabilities on Saturday, July 26th 2008.
