Sec. 1.
Council created.
There is created the Illinois Arts
Council, an agency of the State of Illinois.
Until July 1, 2003 or when all of the new members to be initially
appointed under this amendatory Act of the 93rd General Assembly have been
appointed by the Governor, whichever occurs later, the Illinois Arts Council
shall be composed of not less than 13 nor more than 35 members to be
appointed by the Governor, one of whom shall be a senior citizen age 60 or
over.
The term of each appointed member of the Council
who is in office on June 30, 2003 shall terminate at the close of business
on that date or when all of the new members to be initially appointed under
this amendatory Act of the 93rd General Assembly have been appointed by the
Governor, whichever occurs later.
Beginning on July 1, 2003 or when all of the new members to be
initially appointed under this amendatory Act of the 93rd General Assembly
have been appointed by the Governor, whichever occurs later, the Illinois
Arts Council shall be composed of 21 members to be appointed by the Governor,
one of whom shall be a senior citizen age 60 or over.
In making initial appointments pursuant to this amendatory Act of the 93rd
General Assembly, the Governor shall designate approximately one-half of the
members to serve for 2 years, and the balance of the members to serve for 4
years, each term of office to end on July 1. Thereafter all
appointments shall be made for a 4 year term. The Governor shall designate
the Chairman of the Council from among the members thereof.
