Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process.
Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as
Public
Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the
Guide.
Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes,
statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect.
If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has
not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already
been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes
made to the current law.
(15 ILCS 305/6b) Sec. 6b. Waiver of certain fees for disaster victims. (a) The Secretary of State may, upon a proclamation by the Governor that a disaster exists, waive fees for a duplicate certificate of title, vehicle registration, driver's license, or State identification card if the citizen provides sufficient proof that he or she resides in the declared disaster area. This authority may only be exercised for a period of 30 days after the Governor files the proclamation. (b) The citizen shall provide to the Secretary written documentation evidencing his or her residence or, if the citizen has none, the Secretary shall require the citizen to verify personal information currently on file with the Secretary of State. The citizen must also provide an affirmation, under penalty of perjury, that the original documents were lost or destroyed in the disaster. If the Secretary is unable to confirm the identity of the citizen or that the residence of the citizen was within the declared disaster area, no document will be issued. (c) If, upon review of the documentation provided by the citizen, the Secretary finds that the citizen was not entitled to a waiver of fees under this Section, the Secretary is to demand payment for services rendered within 60 days. If payment for services is not made by the citizen, the Secretary may cancel or revoke the duplicate certificate of title, vehicle registration, driver's license, or State identification card. The citizen may request a hearing under Section 2-118 of the Illinois Vehicle Code to contest the action of the Secretary.
