Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the Guide.

Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

    Sec. 5-26. Inactive licenses.

Any licensee who notifies the Department, in writing on forms prescribed by the Department, may elect to place the license on an inactive status and shall, subject to the rules of the Department, be excused from payment of renewal fees until notification in writing to the Department of the desire to resume active status. Any licensee requesting reinstatement from inactive status shall pay the current renewal fee, provide proof of meeting the continuing education requirements for the period of time the license is inactive (not to exceed 2 renewal periods), and follow the requirements for reinstatement as provided by rule. Any licensee whose license is in an inactive status shall not practice in the State of Illinois. The Department will update the licensee's record in the National Registry to show that the license is inactive.
