Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes,
statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect.
If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has
not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already
been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes
made to the current law.

Sec. 5. Department powers and duties.
The Department has general supervision and authority over the location,
construction and modification of water wells, closed loop wells and
monitoring wells and for the administration of
this Act. With respect thereto it shall:
(a) Adopt and publish, and from time to time amend |
| rules and regulations as hereinafter provided;

(b) Commencing no later than January 1, 1988, issue
|
| permits for the construction, modification, abandonment, or change in depth of any water well other than community public water systems and monitoring wells;
|
|
(b-5) Commencing no later than one year after the
|
| effective date of this amendatory Act of the 97th General Assembly, issue permits for the construction, modification, and abandonment of closed loop wells; and
|
|
(c) Exercise such other powers as are practical and
|
| reasonably necessary to carry out and enforce the provisions of this Act.
