Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the Guide.

Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

Sec. 30. Nonforwardable verification letter.

The Illinois State Police shall mail an annual nonforwardable verification letter to a  person registered under this Act beginning one year from the date of his or her last registration. A person required to register under this Act who is mailed a verification letter shall complete, sign, and return the enclosed verification form to the Illinois State Police postmarked within 10 days after the mailing date of the letter. A person's failure to return the verification form to the Illinois State Police within 10 days after the mailing date of the letter shall be considered a violation of this Act; however it is an affirmative defense to a prosecution for failure of a person who is required to return a verification form to the Illinois State Police if the post office fails to deliver the verification form to the Illinois State Police or if it can be proven that the form has been lost by the Department.
