Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

    Sec. 6. In no event shall it be necessary to fix or stipulate in any contract a time for the completion or a time for payment in order to obtain a lien under this Act, provided, that the work is done or material furnished within three years from the commencement of said work or the commencement of furnishing said material in the case of work done or material furnished as to residential property; and within 5 years from the commencement of said work or the commencement of furnishing said material in the case of work done or material furnished as to any other type of property. The changes made by Public Act 97-966 are operative from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2021.
