Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS)
Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the Guide.
Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

Sec. 10. Establishment of Commission. (a) The Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes is established. The Commission shall consist of a chairperson and 20 additional members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. The membership may include, but is not limited to, persons who are active in and knowledgeable about the areas of law enforcement, the criminal and civil justice systems, education, human rights, business and industry, arts and culture, social services, and religion. Terms of the members shall be staggered so that 10 of the initial members shall serve until March 1, 2009, 10 of the initial members and the initial chairperson shall serve until March 1, 2011, and thereafter each member shall serve for a term of 4 years. Members shall serve until their successors are appointed and qualified. Any vacancy in the membership of the Council shall be filled by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate for the unexpired term. Members shall serve without compensation, but may be reimbursed for expenses. (b) The Commission shall be provided assistance and necessary staff support services by the agencies of State government involved in the issues to be addressed by it.
