Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS)

Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the Guide.

Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

750 ILCS 46/301

    (750 ILCS 46/301)
Sec. 301. Voluntary acknowledgment. A parent-child relationship may be established voluntarily by the signing and witnessing of a voluntary acknowledgment in accordance with Section 12 of the Vital Records Act and Section 10-17.7 of the Illinois Public Aid Code. A woman or person who gave birth to a child and an alleged genetic parent of the child, a presumed parent under Section 204, or an intended parent under Article 7, may sign an acknowledgment of parentage to establish the parentage of the child. The voluntary acknowledgment shall contain the social security numbers or tax identification numbers of the persons signing the voluntary acknowledgment; however, failure to include the social security numbers of the persons signing a voluntary acknowledgment does not invalidate the voluntary acknowledgment.
