Sec. 0.01.
Short title.
This Act may be cited as the
Senior Citizen Courses Act.

Sec. 1. Definitions. For the purposes of this Act:
(a) "Public institutions of higher education" means the University of
Illinois, Southern Illinois University,
Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State
University, Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois University,
Northern Illinois University, Western Illinois University, and
the public community colleges subject to the "Public Community College Act".
(b) "Credit Course" means any program of study for which public
institutions of higher education award credit hours.
(c) "Senior citizen" means any person 65 years or older whose annual
household income is less than the threshold amount provided in Section 4 of
the "Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities Property Tax Relief Act", approved July 17, 1972, as amended.

Sec. 2.
Each public institution of higher education shall permit
senior citizens accepted for admission to enroll without the payment
of tuition in regularly scheduled credit courses, other than credit courses
designed specifically for senior citizens, provided that available
classroom space exists and tuition paying students enrolled constitute the
minimum number required for the course.

Sec. 3.
Nothing in this Act shall preclude public institutions from
requiring fees, other than tuition, subject to approval by the
institution's governing board, for individuals attending credit courses
pursuant to waivers
granted under this Act.
