Sec. 1.
Whenever a claim is filed with the Department of Human Services or
the Department of
Corrections for payment of
medical fees or charges arising from the medical care or hospitalization of
an escapee from a State controlled charitable, penal or reformatory
institution, who was injured while being recaptured, the Department of Human
Services or the Department
of Corrections, as the case may be, shall conduct an investigation to
determine the cause and nature of the injuries sustained, whether the care
or hospitalization rendered was proper under the circumstances and whether
the fees or charges claimed are reasonable. The Department shall forward
its findings to the Court of Claims, which shall have the power to hear and
determine such claims.
